esthetic and cosmetic dentistry
THE NEW CAD/CAM TECHNOLOGYenables dentists to construct and manufacture individualized dental ceramic restorations by themselves using computer-aided technology.
Intraoral cameras replace the tedious taking of impressions and precise milling devices create scaffolds made of white zirconium.
Calcium disilicate ceramics and white zirconium scaffolds replace the metal constructions used earlier, these meeting the same requirements of long-term stability, but making an enormous contribution to the aesthetic aspect.
Hollywood stars were the first patients that allowed veneers to be bonded onto their teeth: they perfectly cover dental blemishes. The English term actually means facade or inlay. Veneers can no longer be distinguished from real teeth. In the interim, veneers have a service life of 20 years and are composed of fine, wafer-thin special ceramics. These glass or feldspar ceramics cause no symptoms.
Veneers can remedy various cosmetic imperfections and defects of teeth.
- excessively large spaces between teeth,
- teeth that are either too short or too small in general,
- cracks in the teeth,
- broken-off corners,
- small malpositions,
- tooth damage after an accident.
- they can protect the dental nerve from mechanical, bacterial, chemical and temperature-related irritations;
- in the most favorable case, a veneer can replace a crown.
DigitalSmileDesignBut … above all, the DSD seeks to present to the public a new face of dentistry, more human, emotional and artistic, further enhancing our noble profession in society, because after all there are not many things in this life important that a healthy smile, natural, confident and beautiful!
The concept aims to assist the dentist in 3 aspects:
- Improve planning and design aesthetic smile.
- Improve communication between specialists involved in the case.
- Improve communication with the patient, increasing participation in the design of the very same smile, the motivating and educating them about the benefits of treatment.
To achieve this kind of result the dentist needs to become a modern professional who goes beyond just being a good dentist. Designers need to turn on the Smile! The Concept DSD aims to help the dentist this aspect improved visualization aesthetics of the patient’s problems and possible solutions clearing.
The ideal aesthetic result also depends on teamwork. The ideal treatment is the result of an interdisciplinary approach which is a challenge in itself due to the difficulty of implementing a protocol for efficient communication between the team. The DSD also aims to facilitate this communication process so simple.
Finally, the process of transformation of a smile must take into account the patient’s wishes. The fundamental question is: what the patient wants to express with your smile? We can create different designs of smiles each with a specific character. The key is to figure out which is the design that will harmonize with these morpho-psychological aspects of the patient. The DSD also aims to help in this quest by creating a channel of communication between dentist and patient that facilitates the process.
We believe these three key aspects can be facilitated through visual communication, which improves the visualization and understanding of aesthetic problems. So DSD is based on this: visual communication in daily planning cases, integration of staff and patient interaction.
The concept has been spreading rapidly around the world mainly because of its simplicity and not require any equipment, special software or larger investments.
Everything is based on analysis-facial aesthetic photographic and videographic patient to better understand the relationship of the teeth, gums, lips and face in motion. Organize this information in a simple software slideshow (Keynote or Powerpoint-Mac-PC) for creation of digital drawing of smiling, sharing those images with the specialists through the internet, visual presentation of an attractive treatment plan for the patient and processing of digital design into something that can be tested and approved by the patient before the treatment itself start increasing the acceptance of treatment.
But above all, the DSD seeks to present to the public a new face of dentistry, more human, emotional and artistic, further enhancing our noble profession in society, because after all there are not many things in life more important than a smile healthy, natural, confident and beautiful!
